I’m Luca Domiro, a contemporary artist of Italian heritage painting since the age of 13. Born and raised in South Africa and now based on the edge of the New Forest in the UK, my work is shaped by a lifelong connection to wildlife, colour, and the landscapes that surround me.
My practice explores identity, belonging and emotional memory through expressive contemporary painting. Working primarily with acrylic on linen, I combine abstraction, figurative symbolism and layered mark-making to create works that sit between recognition and interpretation.
I am interested in the stories we inherit, the experiences that shape us, and the qualities we discover within ourselves as we move through change. Animals and natural forms frequently become symbolic participants in this exploration – representing resilience, intuition, freedom, connection and quiet strength. My Roots and Wild Spirit series draw particularly on heritage and the natural world, while my Curated Collection works explore the interior landscape of feeling, memory and human connection.
Colour is central to my language. I use bold, sometimes contrasting palettes and expressive layers to create emotional atmosphere rather than simply depict a subject. The process is intuitive and accumulative: marks are built, disrupted and rediscovered, allowing the painting to retain traces of movement, uncertainty and reflection.
Ultimately, I seek to create paintings that invite viewers to pause, recognise something of themselves, and consider the memories, relationships and experiences that make us who we are.
